Arthur's Milkbar
Serving the hood, just like yesterday.
A Corner Store Reimagined
Tucked into the backstreets of Kew at 124-126 Edgevale Road, Arthur's Milkbar is a love letter to the classic Australian corner store. Co-owned by Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli and his partner Neila Brenning, the café was born from a shared belief that the best places in any neighbourhood are the ones that feel like they have always been there. The kind of place where the barista knows your order, the food is made with care, and everyone who walks through the door feels like a regular.
Set inside a converted corner store with exposed brick walls, vintage signage and leather banquettes, Arthur's wears its nostalgia lightly. The space spans three shopfronts, giving it room to breathe without losing the warmth of a neighbourhood local. There are lolly bags at the counter. The coffee is single origin Inglewood. The breakfast menu leans into Aussie classics with a contemporary twist: buttermilk pancakes, Turkish-inspired omelettes with fermented chilli butter, buffalo chicken burgers and housemade sweet treats that change with the seasons.
Open every day, seven until two-thirty on weekdays and eight until three on weekends, Arthur's draws tradies and toddlers, weekday regulars and weekend wanderers. The service is warm and unhurried. The food is generous. And on a good morning, which at Arthur's is most mornings, you might find Marcus himself at a table, sipping a flat white and fielding praise from the neighbourhood he has made his own. Serving the hood, just like yesterday.
